Welcome to the CAMBUSTICA field school 2008

The Belogradchik Field School is part of a Bulgarian Archaeological Association project involving the study of Roman culture in NW Bulgaria. The project includes excavation work on a Roman site, lecture courses on excavation methodology and site interpretation and organized visits to nearby archaeological sites. Volunteers and students will be supervised by specialists, who will provide on-site training. This practical course provides an ideal introduction to the world of archaeology and is suitable both for beginners or experienced archaeologists wishing to develop their skills and knowledge.

The Roman villa site is in the locality of Aniste, 7 km south west from the town of Belogradchik. It is situated directly on the bank of the river - a position which probably shows it to be the main point on the Roman road between major towns in the Roman province at Pannonia and Dacia Mediteranea.

In 2008 the field school takes between August 16 and September 13.

The project is directed by Sara Tatarova and is funded by the Municipalities of Belogradchik and Dimovo.
